When most little girls dream about their wedding day they dream about being a princess for the day! And what says princess more than having your wedding in your very own castle!

For a lot of wedding destinations and venues that probably just is not possible but we are so lucky here in Ireland that we have a stunning range of unique castles the length and breadth of this beautiful country of ours. Thus making the fairytale wedding that we have all dreamed of a real possibility.

Over the years I have got to leave the dream also with my couples and have photographed in some of the most beautiful castle destinations. When couples are planning their weddings from abroad, they often book me before they have put any other wedding plan in place.

As a result I am asked what venues I would recommend and where is the dream setting for their special day.

So... I have out together below my top 4 list of Irish Wedding Castles. I would also love to hear from you in the comments below if you have been to any of these venues or whether you have another one to add to the list - I would love to hear from you!!

Waterford Castle

Right on my doorstep (I literally live across the road) Waterford Castle set on its own idyllic island really is a dream wedding venue. Long before Waterford Castle was a wedding venue, I played there as a child as it was a family home of a good friend of mine - can you believe owning your very own castle!! As a result I have a romantic nostalgia for this venue and love it every time I go there to photograph a wedding. So if you love the idea of a romantic hideaway that is only accessible by ferryboat then this could be the venue for you.

2. Ballyseede Castle

Nestled away in the beautiful Kerry, Ballyseede Castle is a family run wedding venue that has the luxe and grandeur of a castle venue but the personal family touch of a home that is feels loved and lived in. Set on 30 acres of parkland Ballyseede is a true hideaway where you can relax and indulge completely in the princess for a day vibe!

3. Adare Manor

For me Adare Manor is the cream of the crop in Irish Castle luxury. For a start the Manor is set on the edge of the beautiful Adare village a real throwback to an Irish country village, complete with thatched cottages and beautiful Irish crafts. And then you have the Manor itself with its sweeping staircase, lavish reception rooms, river walks and the most amazing formal gardens for photographs or even your wedding ceremony. Now that is something to dream about isn't it!

4. Castle Durrow

One of my favourites. Dating from 1716 Castle Durrow gives an honourable nod to its past and tradition whilst also offering modern and contemporary luxury. A perfect blend. The sun has always shone each and every time I have been to Castle Durrow and what a place on a beautiful sunny day! With the most attentive staff you are in very good hands at Castle Durrow.

2. Greece

Up next on our list is beautiful Greece and one that is definitely on my list of places I would love to visit. Starting in Athens for all is stunning historical monuments, history and high-end boutiques, honeymooners then opt for a spot of island hopping  - soaking up all of that sun, sea and natural beauty.

Santorini is one of those places you just have to visit with is picturesque white-washed house against the piercing blue sky - one of the best places in the world to view the sun set.

The country of the God of Love Eros makes Greece a perfect destnation for newlyweds.

3. Italy

And last but not least - Italy - where we in fact chose to honeymoon! Where to start! As a honeymooner you really will be spoiled for choice in Italy. From the rugged beauty of the Amalfi coast and its winding roads (not for the faint hearted!) which lead from one beautiful town to the next to Tuscany with its rolling landscape, beautiful sunshine and hilltops towns where you can lose yourself for an afternoon. Then there is the romance and uniqueness of Venice and the Italian lakes where couples can truly relax and unwind. Italy has my heart and we spent such a wonderful 3 weeks exploring all that is has to offer!

But now Needle and Thread have created their very own wedding dress collection to suit everyone from a sophisticated city wedding to a beach wedding in the sun.

So without further ado, here are some of our favourites from the collection

When You Should Send Out Your Thank You Cards

siobhan colclough

Typically your thank you cards should be sent out about 8 weeks after your wedding, although couples can often take longer than this. It is all about setting aside the time to do it together and half the workload, now that you are husband and wife. For our Thank You cards we aimed to write a certain number every day and it was very overwhelming to do them all in one sitting.

Our top tips are below!

1. Working from your guest list spread sheet, tick them off as you write them and you will also have all of your addresses to hand as well.

2. How about getting your printers to address the labels for you - this is easily done with a spreadsheet and some organisation and will save you loads of time!

3. Why not order your Thank You cards when you are ordering your wedding invitations and you can continue the theme and design right through your wedding, from beginning to end

4. Alternatively you could also use some photographs from your wedding to grace your Thank You cards. It can be a very personal touch and your guests will love to see the photographs. If you have taken a group photograph at the wedding, this can work well on the reverse of your card as well.

5. Be sure to order more than you need. This allows you to make some errors and know that you are covered. You might like to send a card to others who were involved in your day - your florist or photographer, so it is always a good idea to have some spare cards to hand.

Bouquet Monogram Wedding Invitations on Trend for 2017

There are some classic elements of wedding invitation styles that are forever on trend and florals are one of those.

For 2017 florals are big and bold, a modern take on a classic element, you could say. And when teamed with beautiful presentation covers and a monogram, you have three elements that ensure your invitations are perfect for a 2017 wedding.

Our "Bouquet Monogram" design is fresh and elegant, with beautiful lettering and a custom presentation cover that you can coordinate with your wedding colours to suit a wedding for any season in 2017!

Your Table Seating Plan

siobhan colclough

Today we are talking Seating Plans! Often two words that strike fear in every Bride and Groom. And something they put off until the very last minute! We are not going to talk today about how to organise the seating arrangements but more about some seating plan ideas.

Couples often leave the Seating Plan to the hotel or venue but it can often be a good opportunity to incorporate your wedding invitation theme into another part of your day.

All we need is your table names and guest names about 7-10 days before your wedding and we can easily incorporate your wedding invitation design into your seating plan for a beautiful addition to your day!

On Your Wedding Day - How you Can be Ready for Your Wedding Photographer

siobhan colclough

On the morning of your wedding , your photographer will want to photograph all of those lovely details your have chosen for your wedding day - your jewellery, flowers, dress, shoes and of course your wedding invitations.

All of these beautiful details will help to tell the story of your day and when you see them laid out in your wedding album, it will bring back all of the memories of a beautiful day.

So what do you need to have ready for your photographer on the day? We always advise that you leave everything to one side the night before the wedding. That way, you can concentrate on getting ready and leave it to your photographer to get those perfect shots!

1. Wedding Dress

We advise that you hang your dress, without its cover somewhere that you would like it to be photographed. Your photographer can always move it with your bridesmaid help if they need to. If your dress came on a simple black hanger, there are some seriously pretty hangers available on Etsy that you could order. It is all about those little details!

2. Flowers

Once your florist has delivered your flowers, it is a good idea to leave them in some water until about 30 minutes before you leave for your ceremony. Be careful to pat them dry, so your dress doesn't get wet and they are all ready to be photographed.

3. Shoes and Jewellery

Ahead of the day, think of anything else that is special to you, that you would like photographed and make a list. It may be a family heirloom, earrings from your mum or your something blue. And of course your shoes, dont forget your shoes! They make a wonderful photograph, so pretty!

4. Engagement Ring

A ring shot is definitely one of our favourites, even better if you have both yours and your grooms to be's wedding ring as well. You could always discreetly pass it to a groomsman when you arrive at the ceremony!

5. Invitations

Your invitations often get the ball rolling for your wedding plans. You spend so much time choosing your scheme, incorporating it into your invitation suite and it would be a shame not to get a photograph of them for your wedding album. When you are sending out your invitations remember to keep a blank one safe for your photographer and have it with you on the day of the  wedding!

Now you are all prepared, go back and enjoy the rest of your planning!

Happy Monday xx

Mary Claire and Tim's story touched our heart. They met just before Tim was posted overseas for a tour of duty with the Irish army but knowing they had found something very special in each other their romance blossomed in spite of the distance between them.

Love won out and their relationship culminated in their beautiful Waterford Castle wedding, elegantly photographed by our own Eden Photography

We were so delighted to be part of Mary Claire and Tim's day and design their wedding invitation suite for them. Mary Claire and Tim opted for our Summer Garden design, which beautifully complemented their day. It was such a joy to work with them and so wonderful to see how their day come together in the images below!

Gold Confetti Inspired Wedding Invitations for a Step House Borris Carlow Wedding

siobhan colclough

This was such a pretty wedding that we feel honoured to be a part of. Annette wanted an elegant design that had a little bit of sparkle and our gold confetti inspired invitation suite was born.

Working together on the design we opted for elegant scrolling fonts mixed with the more traditonal non serif fonts that give the invitations the right amount of balance and yet wow at the same time.

Teamed with stunning gold envelopes and miniature confetti inspired RSVP cards the set is complete and ready to give the perfect first impression to Annette and Richard's guests this spring.

If you are thinking of your own bespoke design for your wedding, we would love to hear from you and talk through your design ideas. It would be great to work together! You can contact us

How soon is too soon to start planning your wedding invitations?

siobhan colclough

The answer to this of course is it is never too soon! How did you know I was going  to say that!! For my own wedding, our wedding invitation suite was one of the first elements of the wedding that I organised and prioritised.

Picking a colour scheme for our wedding through our invitations helped set the tone for the day and gave others involved, like our wonderful florist Colette and idea of what our day would be like; and what colours I really loved.

It also was a great help in bridesmaid dress shopping. We decided that we wanted the girls to all wear different coloured dresses and having s colour palette to work from made the whole shopping experience much easier and enjoyable!!

We only gave ourselves a little over three months to plan our wedding. Invitations needed to be organised so that our guests had enough notice. And once we decided on those, other decisions flowed from that and made planning our day much more streamlined and structured.

Give yourself enough time to make the right decision. Use Pinterest and Instagram to decide what you like. You will know early on if you are more attracted to traditional design or whether you are drawn to what is modern and new. Once you decide between both of those look at what colours you like. Will they fit in with your day, your choice of venue, yours style of dress? And as you plan the rest of your wedding keep those colours in mind. Carry your wedding invitation with you and use it to guide your decisions on decor, cakes and all the other elements that will, bring your day to life. Use the invitations as a template of your day, what it is you want your wedding to say - stylish, natural, elegant, bold and modern or chic and classic.

Use them as a guide for your decisions and you can't go wrong!!

Spectacular Vintage Wedding Event at Castlemartyr

siobhan colclough

One of the best things about working with my sister at Little Bow Print is when we get to go to wedding fairs together.  And a couple of sunday's ago we had a great day at the Spectacular Vintage Wedding Event at Castlemartyr Resort. It is so exciting to meet the lovely couples interested in our designs and here all their ideas that are making their day unique.

I love seeing how our creations will fit in with their wedding plans, as often the invitations take the lead and colour schemes and other details will grow from what you choose for your wedding invitation suite.

Weddings fairs are such a great way for couples to meet with their wedding suppliers. We live in an online world, which makes planning a wedding so much easier. But in some ways it lacks the personal touch.  There is a face behind every brand and it is great to meet them
and get a proper feel for what they love to do.

Also for wedding invitations it is a good chance to see the papers and print quality up close.
Although you can order sample packs with Little Bow print, which helps too.

Thank you to everyone we met, it was great to hear that you love what we do!
It means so much to us! We are looking forward to working on all your lovely orders and
seeing your beautiful wedding plans come together.

Top 5 Wedding Invitation Etiquette Tips Explained

Little Bow Print

In this modern age where email is so prevalent the art of writing a letter is almost a lost one! For this reason when it comes to writing your wedding invitations there are certain traditions that should be remembered and we are here to help with a quick top 5 tips on how to write your wedding invitations!

1. Leave Plenty of Time to Send them Out

The usual etiquette is that you should send out your wedding invitations at least 6 weeks before your wedding. This should give your guests adequate time to reply and for you to finalise your numbers. You might want to add an extra week or two for guests who live overseas.

2. To Send RSVP's or Not?

It has not always been the norm to send out RSVP cards to your guests in Ireland but it is increasingly becoming so. Brides have found that it helps to ensure a speedy reply from your guests as to whether they are coming or not! You don't have to stamp the RSVPs but some couples choose to, to make a reply easier for everyone.

3. How to Address your Guests.

It is best to address your guests in a formal way when addressing your envelopes - using "Mr", Mrs" or "Ms". However when you write the actual invite you should address your guests by their first names.

4. Getting it Right First Time

Plan plenty of time ahead in writing your guest list, so that when you sit down to writing what is probably a large bundle of invitations, you don't miss anyone out! It can get very confusing very quickly if you are not organised.

5. Allow for Mistakes

Nothing is worse than running out of invitations because you have made spelling mistakes or due to mishaps. Always order 20-30 extra invitations than you need and you wont regret it. If you have spares left over, they make lovely keepsakes and your photographer will always be glad on the day to photograph a nice crisp and clean wedding invitation.

I hope these tips help and best of luck with the writing!
